With the establishment of the Ocean Affairs Council on April 28, 2018, Taiwan now has a dedicated unit for ocean affairs and together with its affiliated agencies, the Coast Guard Administration, the Ocean Conservation Administration and the National Academy of Marine Research, they are committed to achieving the goals of ecological sustainability, maritime safety and industry prosperity.

June 8 is designated as World Oceans Day by the United Nations and Taiwan has joined the world in starting the first National Oceans Day on June 8, 2020, to make joint efforts and contributions to ocean sustainability with the international community.

The theme of the United Nations World Oceans Day 2022 is Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean. Through the collective power of the public, we hope to innovate and change the way we use the ocean, thereby protecting its resources and vitality and achieving the goal of sustainable use.

In line with the theme of the 2022 World Oceans Day, the main theme of the 2022 National Oceans Day is conveyed to showcase the results of the mission of the OAC and its affiliated agencies, namely the National Academy of Marine Research, the Ocean Conservation Administration and the Coast Guard Administration, as well as the collaborative efforts of the industry, government, academe and non-government organizations and the blessings and conservation actions from all corners. It is important for everyone to contribute to sustainability and innovation. The vitality and love for the sea can inspire and move people and we are confident in our capability and responsibility to ensure that tomorrow's ocean will be better.

In 2022, the third National Oceans Day was held under the theme of "Revitalization, Coexistence: Ocean Sustainability," hoping that the people of Taiwan would take practical action - innovative thinking, collective action and co-prosperity - to pursue ocean sustainability.

The 3rd National Oceans Day event was changed to a virtual format due to the ongoing pandemic. Through the Internet, the concept and actions of Ocean Day were conveyed so that the public can further understand Taiwan's connection with the world, the actual implementation of the national ocean policy and the goal of promoting the concept of ocean sustainability.

We welcome all to join our ranks.
