Ocean Affairs Council’s "Maritime Culture Revitalization" Project: Joining Forces Nationwide to Activate Marine DNA

Our island is like a vessel full of dynamic energy. President Lai Ching-te’s "Explore the Oceans" policy has unveiled a blueprint for Taiwan’s future, allowing us to seek opportunities for innovation and define our position within the boundless frontiers of the sea. Catching the sails of technology and imagination, we bravely set sail toward the world.

To ensure that "Exploring the Oceans" resonates more deeply with the people and integrates into daily life, the Ocean Affairs Council has innovatively launched the "Revitalizing Maritime Cultural Power" project. Using the vessel as a carrier and "setting sail" as its core framework, the project calls upon both public and private sectors to systematically accumulate memories, historical data, and wisdom of coexisting with the sea. This is achieved through the construction and publication of maritime cultural knowledge, the inheritance and exchange of boat-building craftsmanship, and the rooting of maritime arts and literature. By practicing and passing down maritime culture, the project uses vessels to open dialogues both domestically and internationally, allowing art to drive the mainstreaming of maritime cultural thinking and enhancing the aesthetic appreciation of the ocean among all citizens.

When culture relights the lamp for the ocean, the island-vessel of Taiwan will not only sail toward the frontlines of technology but will also lead the entire nation forward among the stars and waves with a profound cultural foundation. It is hoped that the "Revitalizing Maritime Cultural Power Project" will serve as a starting point for dialogue and a platform for constructing the subjectivity of Taiwan’s maritime culture. By gathering the warmest currents of our deep affection for the ocean, it will continue to pilot Taiwan—with art as our sail and culture as our oar—toward a vast and azure future.
